JACKSONVILLE -- May 21, 2002 --
The University Police Department will again participate in the
Nationwide "Click It or Ticket" seatbelt safety compliance campaign.
The seatbelt safety campaign on campus will run from May 25 through
June 3.
These safety campaigns have increased seat belt use on the
JSU campus, local cities, states, and even in an entire region of the
country. For example, in May 2001, seat belt use in eight Southeastern
states surged nine percentage points after an unprecedented region-wide
Click It or Ticket campaign; half the states posted double-digit gains.
Combining public safety education with enforcement helps Click It or
Ticket programs succeed. Times, dates, and locations of scheduled
seatbelt compliance checkpoints will soon be published on the Alabama
Department of Public Safety Web Page at: http://www.dps.state.al.us/.
