TSU's Malone Tapped for ACHE Post |
MONTGOMERY, May 20, 2002 -- Michael Malone, president of Troy State University--Dothan, was elected executive director of the Alabama Commission of Higher Education, Friday by unanimous vote of the Commission. Malone said a top goal will be to try to restore funds to the higher education budget and to work for higher education's one-third share of Education Trust Fund dollars. Malone, 54, said he expects the Commission to lead a coalition that includes boards of trustees, post-secondary institutions, the Council of University Presidents and the Higher Education Partnership. The coalition will push for more money for higher education as well as "pre-kindergarten to lifetime learning." ACHE is a 12-member board that coordinates higher education in the state. As executive director, Malone will implement the agency's policies and oversee its collection of higher education data. |
