JACKSONVILLE -- March 5, 2001 --
Public university presidents have informed Gov. Don Siegelman that higher
education disagrees with his interpretation of the Attorney General's
opinion regarding proration of K-12 salaries. The presidents believe that
under relevant statutes K-12 salaries cannot be reduced by school boards;
however, that does not mean that the amounts going to the school boards
from the Education Trust Fund cannot be reduced.
