University Staff Member Elected to City Council

Andy Green, JSU’s Director of Continuing Education and Outreach, was sworn in as the newest member of Jacksonville City Council on Nov. 3. He will represent Place 1 on the council, filling a seat vacated by JSU alumnus Jerry Parris, who served on council for eight years.
"Running for office in 2020 seemed natural as it had already showed itself to be a crazy year," Green said with a laugh. "Kidding aside, there will always be issues which require sound policy and leadership. Many are quick to raise question with elected leaders but few are willing to qualify for the position. The interconnectedness between the City of Jacksonville and JSU is an opportunity many municipalities would appreciate having. I ran for office to provide integrity and insight into our city in order to help position Jacksonville as a premier place to conduct business and call home."
Native to Piedmont, Green has lived in Jacksonville since enrolling as a student at JSU in 2001. He received a BS in geography from the university in 2005. Three years later, he earned a Master of Public Administration from the university, which he said provided him with "the educational experience needed to better understand government and its service to people." He has worked for the university in various roles since 2005.
Green is married to fellow JSU alumnus, Brandie Pollard Green, who serves as the guidance counselor at Kitty Stone Elementary School. They share two children, Jackson and Charlotte.
