University Announces New Commencement Regalia

03/07/2019

JSU’s commencement ceremonies will look even sharper starting this spring, as the university has upgraded its graduation day fashion.

Bachelor's and master’s degree candidates will now wear new black matte gowns, made of more breathable fabric, that feature custom red JSU seals embroidered onto the lapels. Undergraduate caps will be topped off with red and black tassels; graduate caps will include tassels of different colors signifying their academic school. Doctoral degree candidates will wear a unique doctoral gown, hood, and a tam hat with metallic gold tassels.

The cost for the regalia is as follows, payable either in advance or at time of pick up: undergraduate cap and gown set, $52.98; master’s degree gown, cap and hood, $88.96; doctoral gown, hood and tam, $137.94. To order, stop by the campus bookstore, call 256-782-5283 or email sm278@bncollege.com.

Speciality stoles have also been created. All undergraduate and graduate degree candidates have the option of purchasing a Stole of Gratitude. The red silk accessory features the university seal embroidered in white. After wearing it during their commencement ceremony, graduates may wish to present it to a special person who has supported them on their academic journey - such as a parent or spouse.

Veteran and military graduates may choose to purchase stoles honoring their military branch or veteran status, as well as a special red, white and blue American flag tassel. Specialty stoles are also being developed for student-athletes, Marching Southerners and other affinity groups. To learn more about the speciality stoles, contact the bookstore.
