University Monitors Winter Weather Conditions

12/07/2017

After careful deliberation, the JSU emergency response team has elected to wait until Friday morning (Dec. 8) to make a decision regarding winter weather closings. At 6 a.m., a JSU Alert will be sent out announcing whether 8-10 a.m. final exams will be rescheduled, by 8 a.m. or sooner an announcement will be made about 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. finals, and by 10 a.m. or sooner an alert will be sent out regarding 1:30-3:30 p.m. finals.

We realize delaying this decision is inconvenient, but there is no simple solution that will not have a major impact on students’ graduation and winter break travel plans. Student and employee safety is our top concern, followed by giving students the opportunity to finish the semester. Until the storm system begins to move through the state, weather and emergency preparedness experts cannot provide the information we need to make a final decision.

Learn more about winter weather preparedness through the Calhoun County EMA here. This is a good time to make sure you are signed up for JSU Alert messages. To sign up:

  1. Log into MyJSU and click on the “Update Addresses and Phones” link under Featured Links
  2. This will take you to the "Personal Information" tab, where you will see a header that says “Addresses and Phones." Click on the link “Primary” that is located next to phones.
  3. This will take you to the “Update Addresses and Phones” page, where you will enter or update your cell phone information.
