Chamber Singers Spring Concert Slated for April 6 & 9

03/15/2017

On Sunday, April 9th, the Jacksonville State University Chamber Singers will be presenting their spring concert at 3 p.m at the Church of the Ascension in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. The Chamber Singers will also be performing this concert locally on Thursday, April 6th, at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.

Their concert will contain a wide range of repertoire with music by Pablo Casals, Giles Swayne, Ola Gjeilo and Kenneth Leighton, among others. The 22-voice JSU Chamber Singers is one of 6 choral ensembles sponsored by the David L. Walters Department of Music at Jacksonville State University and is the most select choral ensemble in the department.

The Chamber Singers are best known for their Madrigal Dinner program, a farcical dinner theatre event performed every fall semester, written and directed by the students and their director, Dr. Patricia Corbin. Under Corbin’s direction, the Chamber Singers have performed a wide range of repertoire, including a fully staged production of Henry Purcell’s opera “Dido and Aeneas" last spring through jazz concert collaborations with the JSU Jazz area. The spring concert usually features more serious and traditional programming.

Admission is free. For more information about either of these performances, please contact JSU Choral Activities at (256) 782-5544.
