JSU Fishing Teams Reel in Tournament Awards

Recently, the Jacksonville State University Fishing Team was well represented at the Fishlife Collegiate Tournament at Neely Henry. The team of Madison Hayes and Hunter Hayes took first place, and the team of Drake Champion and Colter Turner came in sixth place. The JSU Fishing Team competed with fishing teams from universities and colleges across the state.

 
JSU Graduates Plow Their Way to Top Three in Outstanding Young Farm Families

Lance and Stephanie Miller, both Jacksonville State University graduates, have been selected as one of three finalists for the Outstanding Young Farm Families (OYFF) by ALFA Farmers Federation. Their historic family farm, which has 1,100-acres of cropland and four broiler poultry houses, began in 1851 in Blount County.

JSU senior and Broadway baby Macon Prickett, who was raised on a farm in Alexandria, is a marketing intern on Broadway this summer at the Roundabout Theatre Company.
 
JSU’s National Society of Collegiate Scholars Receives Prestigious Award

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) recently held its ScholarCon Conference in Orlando, Florida, June 25-28. Anna Bowden, president of the JSU chapter, and Ashley Toney, vice president, attended the Scholar Con Conference. During the Honor Gala Star awards luncheon the Jacksonville State University chapter was recognized as a Gold Star Chapter recipient.

JSU Receives Good Roots Grant from the Alabama Power Foundation

Jacksonville State University was recently named 1 of 44 recipients of the Good Roots Grant from the Alabama Power Foundation. At JSU, this money will go to install seven Bosque Elms, which will fill in a gap between existing elms and create an entire line of elms all the way down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Jack Hopper Cafeteria Closed for Repairs

Due to a cooling tower failure, the Jack Hopper Cafeteria is closed until further notice. While the repair is made, the Gamecock Diner will serve a buffet style menu during the Caf’s regular summer operating hours.

Campus Welcomes John M. Beehler as 12th President

John M. Beehler assumed the helm today as 12th president of Jacksonville State University. He succeeds William A. Meehan, who retired June 30 after serving as the university's top administrator for 16 years.
