04/17/2014

The Jacksonville State University’s College of Education and Professional Studies will be kicking off their Community Garden Outreach Project on Friday, April 18, 2014, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. The church is located at 109 Gayle Venue SW Jacksonville, AL 36265. The goal of this project is to help members in the local community learn to grow gardens, produce healthier foods, and learn to develop a healthier diet and lifestyle. To these ends, the gardening project will donate fresh food, such as vegetables, fruits, and herbs, to the local food bank to support lower-income residents in Jacksonville community. The project will also teach young members of the community about the importance of growing and eating their own food to help reduce medical problems such as allergies, asthma and obesity. This event is open to all JSU faculty members and the surrounding community. Anyone attending is encouraged to bring gardening tools.
