JSU Field Schools and Partners Offer Summer Nature Camps

Canyon Camp for Children (at Little River Canyon Center)

Hands-on environmental education, outdoor fun, arts and exploration of the natural world abound in this camp. These camps, provided by One World Adventure Company, leave children begging for more! Children learn all about Little River Canyon and DeSoto State Park…the river, the plants and the animals! These camps fill quickly so register early. Fee includes lunch and supplies.

Date:  June 10-13, 2014 (Tues- Fri)                                                                              

Age/Grade:  Ages 6-9 years
Where:  Little River Canyon Center, Fort Payne (and some off-site travel) 
Time:  9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Chickadee Camp: Outdoor Adventures for Girls (at Cleburne County Mountain Center)

Hands-on outdoor recreation, environmental education, nature, and art for girls ages 8-12. Heflin PARD director, Tammy Perry, and JSU Field Schools, Renee Morrison, and USFS Karen McKenzie, will partner to give young women the opportunity to learn outdoor skills in this fun camp. Activities include disc golf, kayaking, archery, survival skills, animal/plant observation and more!

Date: June 25-27, 2014                                                                                                                   

Age/Grade:  Females age 8-13 years
Where:  Mountain Center and Heflin Parks and Recreation Sites; shuttle from JSU or drop off at center
Time:  9:00 am—4:00 pm

Nature & Arts Camp (at Cleburne County Mountain Center)

Hands-on environmental education, outdoor fun, and arts (storytelling, “fairy tale” observation hikes, ghost-huntin’, hands-on art, science adventures, & more) abound in this camp led by Renee Morrison of JSU Field Schools. These camps leave children begging for more JSU Field School fun! These camps fill quickly so register early. Fee includes lunch and supplies.

Date:  July 8-11, 2014

Age/Grade:  Ages 6 – 9 years
Where:  Mountain Center (and some off-site travel); shuttle from JSU or drop off at center
Time:  9:00 am – 4:00 pm
