06/15/2012

Fort Payne, AL - Jacksonville State University, the Alabama Treasure Forest Association and the Little River Canyon Center are pleased to announce their first half marathon set to be held on Saturday, October 13th, 2012.

Possibly one of the most scenic half marathons in the country, the certified course loops 13.1 miles on paved roads, starting and ending at the Little River Canyon Center.

To start at 8 a.m., the first five miles of the run will follow the Little River Canyon National Preserve's incredibly scenic and sometimes challenging rim of the canyon, as the remainder winds through gently rolling farm country including Randy Owen Drive and his famous Tennessee River Music Hereford and Angus cattle ranch.

The half marathon will feature water and musical stations, chip timing, ample law enforcement, shirts, trophies, prize money and much more. Proceeds go to outdoor education programs and local conservation efforts.

Registration is tentatively set at:

$70 day of race (October 13th)
$10 discount certificates will be available to participating groups as indicated on-line.
