JACKSONVILLE – Former Gamecock All-American quarterback Ed Lett has been named Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at Jacksonville State, Athletics Director Warren Koegel announced on Thursday.

Lett begins his new position on February 13 and replaces David Farrar, who is planning on returning to consulting work in Tennessee after retiring from athletic administration.

Lett, one of the most prolific passers in Gamecock football history, was a two-time All-American for the Gamecocks in the early 1980's, and was the Alabama Sports Writers Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1981. He was also inducted in the JSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.

“We are extremely excited to announce that Ed has joined the Gamecock Athletic Department and will help coordinate our athletic fundraising,” Koegel said. “He has tremendous passion for Jacksonville State and is well connected with our former players, alumni and friends of the University.”

During his playing career from 1979-82, Lett threw for 7,092 yards and 61 touchdowns and set 24 game, season and career passing records and led the Gamecocks to a 26-8 record, a pair of Gulf South Conference Championships and three consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

“I'm very excited about the opportunity to return to my alma mater,” said Lett. “I've been associated with Jacksonville State since my brother Doc played in 1968, and I love the University and the entire Gamecock family. I'm ready to hit the ground running to make the Athletic Department the very best it can be.”

Lett spent the last 15 years in the medical field, working as an Executive Sales Consultant with Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation, and the last year as the Director of Physician Business Development for Riverview Regional Medical Center.
