Campus Reopening, Preparing for Fall Semester

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

On Monday, May 18 – exactly two months after we closed most offices due to COVID-19 – the university will begin a phased reopening of campus. Supervisors are evaluating their areas and will communicate with employees their plans for transitioning back to campus.

JSU plans to resume on-campus instruction with normal operations for the Fall 2020 semester. Over the summer, the campus will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, while the coronavirus taskforce, led by Dr. Jeff Ryan, continues to work on a return plan for fall. Your health and safety are the administration’s top priority. The university will follow all appropriate guidelines and recommendations set forth by the State of Alabama as we work to return to normal operations and, as much as possible, normal activities.

The summer semester will kick off tomorrow. Registration is still open, so students, I encourage you to check out the schedule for a class or classes that will move you closer to completion of your college degree. This summer, Gamecock Orientation (GO!) will be held on campus and in person to prepare incoming students for fall. Learn more here. As announced last week, we will hold spring and summer commencement ceremonies on July 31 and August 1. The fall semester begins on August 18.

I hope all of you have a wonderful summer. I will continue to communicate more details about the fall semester as they become available. I cannot wait until the entire JSU family is back together again!

Sincerely,

Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr.
Acting President
